I wanted to buy one so I searched to see what I could find for a decent price and I found the Littman lightweight II for $40 at allheart.com and most nurses did say those were best (they didn't say they were best for hearing the baby's heartbeat though). Where can I buy a Non-PVC/vinyl stethoscope? I am a very environmentally concerned medical student. I would really like to buy a stethoscope with tubing made of rubber (dry natural rubber), as was normal some decades ago. Any advice? you make a good point about polluting more in the extra production required for rubber stethoscopes. However, in 50 years, when I retire my toxic piece of equipment, it will go to some dump and possibly leak into the environment and damage the population that I spent my life trying to heal. I know most people think that ONE thing doesnt matter... but it really does. One big idea, one move in the right direction... thousands of those ONES make a difference. But i guess i have no other choice regarding stethoscopes, until technology catches up with environmental concerns. How early can you hear a fetal heartbeat with a regular stethoscope (not doppler)? I'm thinking about buying a regular stethoscope or a fetal stethoscope and wanted to know if anyone else has done so while pregnant and how early they were able to hear the baby's heartbeat, at home.
What kind of stethoscope should I buy? I am an EMT-B in training and need to buy my own scope and BP cuff. I know there are very fancy versions of both, but as I will be in a loud ambulance most of the time, I won't be able to hear the subtle sounds offered by the high quality equipment anyway. I want a brand that is not very expensive but you have experience with and would recommend. Also, for the scope, I prefer the one tube rather than the double tube. I know the single tubes are just a conduit for 2 tubes, but the full conduit keeps the tubes from banging together and I don't want to deal with sound interference. 20 weeks and cannot feel kicks or hear anything through stethoscope.? At my last clinic when I was 17 weeks, my doctor asked if I had felt the kicks. When I said no, he said not to worry, it will start within the next week. I am 20 weeks now and have not felt anything and I am really worring. Since my doctor is on leave, I cannot call him and I won't be seeing him till my 23rd or 24th week. Should I be worrying? Also, I am overweight but have noticed that sometimes my stomach is really hard but more often this days it is soft and I don't feel pregnant but just fat. I also bought a stethoscope to calm myself but cannot hear anything and am more worried than before. I don't know any other doctor that I could call. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Fetal Heartbeat high (diagram) or low (bell) frequency with Stethoscope? My wife and I just bought a stethoscope to possibly listen to the fetal heartbeat. We know it's will be very difficult but the stethoscope was very cheap. We just wanted to know if we should use the diagram side (which picks up high frequency sounds) or the bell side (which picks up low frequency sounds). how can i hear the best from a stethoscope? i am training to be a nurses assistant, i have to learn to take blood pressure. The problem is that i can't hear that good out of the stethoscope. I have to use a certain stethoscope for school, i have one of my own i can hear out of. But the one that the school gave me seems to be a piece of junk.
